Racial Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Movie Club Meeting

You are cordially invited to join the Racial Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (RDEI) Committee for the first public meeting of the Racial Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Movie Club!

The Racial Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Movie Club will offer the chance for film fanatics and those who are looking for an interactive group activity to view films from different genres and engage in lively discussions. Film selections will delve into complex issues that are pertinent to the work of the Commission. Participants will have the opportunity to deepen their personal and professional journeys, from building awareness to deepening advocacy.

Much like the RDEI Committee, the RDEI Movie Club will provide a welcoming, inclusive environment that encourages members to share their thoughts and interpretations. To foster a deeper connection and understanding, we will encourage members to discuss how the films relate to their personal experiences, professional lives, and/or current events.

This month's feature will be South Dakota Focus: Juvenile Justice and Trauma. Experts are seeing a rise in antisocial and violent behavior among South Dakota's young people, especially since the onset of the pandemic. The effects of child trauma coupled with recent changes in state juvenile justice policy has left some families to fall through the cracks. For others, juvenile diversion programs offer a second chance to stay out of the juvenile justice system altogether.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Training & Administrative Specialist, Amanee Cabbagestalk at acabbagestalk@juvenilecompact.org
